Infectious diseases with epidemic potential remain a significant and constant threat to the health and security of populations around the world requiring strengthening of health emergency preparedness, readiness and response systems and capacities at national and sub national levels. The recently published "Minimum Standards and Recommendations for Medical Teams responding to Highly Infectious Disease Outbreaks" provides guidance on the establishment of such critical capacities. This session will inform about this publication and examine lessons and critical gaps identified in past outbreak responses, how they are addressed by the guidance, and ways to implement standards on national/ regional level.
