New innovations and applications of technologies for health emergency preparedness and response are constantly evolving. Leading-edge technologies, such as artificial intelligence and unmanned aerial vehicles, could critically transform the ways in which we prepare for and respond to health emergencies, enhancing readiness, speed, and effectiveness of response capacities. But they may also introduce novel issues. In this session, participants will hear from experts and gain a foundational understanding of currently trending technologies – AI, drones and simulators – including the scope and examples of their potential applications, both current and envisioned, in health emergencies. This will be followed by an interactive discussion on the opportunities and challenges provided by these technologies (and new innovations in general), and what they may mean for EMTs and surge response capacities.
